Seminar “Lean manufacturing” was planned and organized by Tarik Hadzic, member of the Managing Board, and it was held on Saturday, 21 December 2013 in Tuzla. The participants were representatives of different institutions, companies and private sector.
The main goal was to introduce to participants basic elements of production organization known as Lean Manufacturing. This way of organization and managing of the production process has become a must in leading world producers. Also, this method can be easily found in many service industries, such as Healthcare, known as Lean Healthcare.
Lean manufacturing stands for a production practice and by it we understand any resource utilization which doesn’t create any value for the buyer and as such it should be eliminated. From the buyer’s perspective who utilizes the product or service, “value” is defined as any action or process for which the buyer is ready to pay.
Lecturers were leading experts in this field.

In addition, according to up to date data, the country possesses a very weak infrastructure for earthquake monitoring which needs to be renewed and additionally networked. In accordance with the above said, in Sarajevo was held a workshop under the title “Assessment of geological hazard – earthquake”. The workshop was held on 09 December and was attended by 14 experts fro various fields: geology, seismology, geodesy and construction, as earthquakes as phenomenon is studied and analyzed in different fields and from different perspectives After a short introduction and presentation of mr.sci. Toni Nikolic, two lectures were held: “Seismological zone of Banja Luka” (prof. Drago Trkulja from Banja Luka) and „Mechanics of tectonic plates and micronizing BiH’s tectonic structure” (prof. Hazim Hrvatovic from Sarajevo). An active discussion followed, during which different views and opinions of the participants were exchanged and at the end some recommendations were agreed which can be summarized into two groups: 1) creating projects related to raise of public awareness and level of education of the target groups, and 2) human capacity building and finding ways for additional education and scholarship of postgraduate and doctoral studies of young experts in this field. Having in mind the importance of managing correct information and on-time response, it is understandable how urgent is to undertake additional efforts in acquiring sophisticated equipment and investing in young experts who will be ready to deal with all challenges that might happen in future. This is of crucial importance so that casualties and material damage could be brought to the lowest level possible, and so that the society receives additional education and instruction on behavior in such situations.
